Reflections on a Semester

I learned that putting the subject of you photo in one of the four main corners of the "grid" makes the viewer more drawn to that area of the photo. I also learned the process of the dark room and film development along with the beauty of a black and white image. I learned that photography isn't something that everyone can do. It's not something that lets anyone pick up a camera and shoot. It requires a keen eye and a desire to produce quality work. I also learned that everyone has their own view and opinion on a picture and that anyone can have their own separate interpretation of what it is. I think that the main thing I learned about myself is that I have the potential to do well at things I never considered before, like photography. I also think that I was able to find connections to things and ideas in my photos.

I feel like there wasn't much more that we could have done. I think that what we worked on in this class was a great basis for aspiring photographers. I think my main struggle was finding the time in my day to set aside to working on photography. I discovered that I shouldn't have to make the time, but somehow let the time find me, in a sense that I can't search for the perfect picture, I have to create it and let it find me. I feel like I conquered this new environment itself. Being able to come into a world of photography that I hadn't known before and being able to take that in and learn. I also feel like I conquered myself in way because I took something I didn't think I'd be able to do and turned it into something I now love.

Light Photography

I turned off the main light in my room and turned on my desk lamp. I then removed the lamp shade and turned the lamp to the lowest setting. For the silhouttes I placed myself in front of the lamp and took some pictures with the brightest setting and some on the dimmest. I did the same for the direct lighting but instead I faced towards the light or had it shine on the side of my face.
